Wind Farms
Wind farms can represent an excellent source of income for land owners when projects are effectively managed with strong partnerships. Sound and meticulous preparation from first contact to the completed lease is essential and this helps to ensure that risk is minimised and return maximised.
Brief
The introduction of the feed in tariff in conjunction with wider government policy related to meeting demanding renewables targets in Scotland has led to a proliferation of small to medium sized companies keen to get land owners signed up to outwardly attractive deals. Although there is some scepticism surrounding the question of whether these targets can be met with current technology there is certainly a willingness to give it a go. Robertson Rural are involved in a wide range of renewable projects from single turbine installations to sites with multiple 2 Mw turbines. We are forging successful partnerships with reputable companies which best suit the needs of each particular client as no two wind farms are the same.
Conclusion
Although many landowners have had direct approaches from companies, we strongly recommend, that companies who have been carefully vetted and tested are matched to those who have expressed an interest in having renewables on their land and not vice versa. This approach has many benefits but crucially protects against nasty surprises further down the line and ensures that the best possible application is submitted for planning with a robust option, lease and legal framework to support it.
